How to Use Mapsettoolkit V1 77 to Install Maps for Mapsource
Mapsettoolkit is a software that allows you to easily generate maps that you can use with Mapsource, a program that lets you view and transfer maps to your Garmin device. Mapsettoolkit can create a full mapset for Mapsource, including the TDB, Global img, reg, and TYP files. It can also uninstall mapsets, create TDB files, support custom level and zoom, support TYP files, support MDX and MDR files, support routing maps, compile TYP files, check registry errors, install mapsets in Mapsource, and more.
In this article, we will show you how to use Mapsettoolkit V1 77 to install maps for Mapsource. You will need the following:
Mapsettoolkit V1 77 beta or later. You can download it from here [^1^].
Cgpsmapper free. You can download it from here [^2^].
The map images (.img) that you want to install. You can find many maps on OpenMTBMap [^3^] or other sources.
A TYP file for the map. This is an optional file that defines the appearance of the map elements. You can create your own TYP file or use an existing one.
Once you have downloaded and installed Mapsettoolkit and Cgpsmapper, follow these steps:
Start Mapsettoolkit and check that there are no errors on other maps installed. To do this, scroll down the list on the right hand side of the window and look for any strange entries. If there are question marks () inside the CODE field, or an empty MAPSET NAME field, there is a serious error. Click on the row, then click Uninstall and Confirm. You can also click on Check Registry to find more errors and fix them.
Click on Select IMG and select all the map images (.img) that you want to install. Then click on Select All and on the right side click Add. The map names should show up on the left and right windows.
Click on Select mapset directory and choose the directory where you extracted the maps or any other directory.
Enter a Mapset Name for the mapset. This name will show in Mapsource to select the map.
Enter a Family ID for the mapset. This should be any number between 100 and 9999 that is not used already by another mapset. You can check the FID field on the right of the main window to see which numbers are already taken.
Select a .TYP file for the map if you have one. If not, leave this field blank.
Tick both options Install in mapsource and blank Overview maps.
Check everything and then click on Start. The mapset will be created and installed in Mapsource.
You can now open Mapsource and select your mapset from the drop-down menu. You can view and transfer the maps to your Garmin device as usual.
